The Fair Estampa announces Tentaciones 2011, the section featuring emerging artists.

ESTAMPA, the International Contemporary Multiple Art Fair that is held in Madrid from October 20 to 23, has opened its call for entries for the contest Tentaciones 2011. Every year, this section of emerging art shows the most innovating projects in the fields of art editions and multiple art, as well as the research and creation of bordering realms among the most diverse techniques, materials, and artistic practices.

The present contest, commissioned by Karin Ohlenschläger, will value those projects and works that propose and question technical reproducibility, a concept implemented by Walter Benjamin seventy-five years ago, and whose meaning has been widened in our dizzying era of information technology and telecommunications.

As the commissioner observes: "The concept of Multiple Lives constitutes the common theme of this new call for Tentaciones. Life in its biological, social, political, and cultural dimensions appears as an integral part of art. It is multiple in its dynamics, forms, and contexts, but multiple, nonetheless, in its code and language, in its structure and relational and interdependent dynamics. And multiple, therefore, for its discourse, experience, and knowledge, as well. Consequently, the criteria for evaluating this edition's Tentaciones will consider any proposal of multiple art, whether it is a silk-screen, a photography, an audiovisual work, a robot, an installation, an Internet or mobile phone project, a virtual setting, a software, or a sound work. The fact is that current digital devices not only emulate any traditional reproduction technique of images, sounds, and texts; they also generate and reproduce structures and forms of life through the most diverse computing and biotechnological procedures.
